By measuring, I was able to do this so the knife attaches and is just a little (~1/16") shorter than my 10" blade. See photos - I did it in two steps: (1) I cut a couple inches off the bottom so it won't interfere with the internal dust shroud in the saw when the blade is lowered, and (2) using the blade guard as a guide and doing some careful measuring, I drilled two 1/4" holes to attach the knife to the blade guard holder.
